<p>Vi lever i et heseblesende samfunn. Mange av oss mister daglig pusten eller mister den midt i dagens aktiviteter. Vår kultur kjenner Indias pustekunstnere bare fra distanse. Disse yogiene med sine smidige kropper og våkne øyne, de flytende bevegelsene som beveger dem rolig og verdig gjennom kaoset i de indiske storbyene. De lever i dyp fred med  pusten sin. Lite kan bringe dem ut av likevekt, pusten er ankeret, de har mestret den. Bevisst og avslappet pusting befrir oss fra stress og sorger.</p>
<p>Også på folkemunne kjenner man pustens beroligende virkning. I en bayersk hytte fant jeg følgende livsvisdom brent inn i tre: ”Går noe galt, så pust dypt inn, bevar roen.” Det er begynnelsen på slowing down.</p>
<h3><span style="color:#008000;">Stoppesteder</span></h3>
<p><strong><span style="color:#008000;">Stopp</span></strong> … når du går ut i det fri</p>
<p><span style="color:#008000;"><strong>Stopp</strong></span> … når du blir andpusten</p>
<p><strong><span style="color:#008000;">Stopp</span></strong> … når uro eller nervøsitet stiger opp i deg</p>
<ul>
<li><strong><span style="color:#008000;">Sett deg på en stol på et rolig sted og sett deg i en opprettet sittestilling.</span></strong> Føl kontakten med fot-sålene dine og bakken. Legg hendene avslappet på magen. Iaktta hvordan hendene dine hever og senker seg gjennom pustingen.  Forsøk å la denne prosessen skje, uten bevisst å gripe inn. Smil til pusten din. Gjør deg bevisst, at det er pustingen som gir deg nødvendig energi i livet ditt, som livet ditt ville vært umulig uten.</li>

<li> <strong><span style="color:#008000;">Thich Nhat Hahn anbefaler å benytte telefonen som stopp- og hvilesignal.</span></strong> Når det ringer, reagerer du ikke umiddelbart, men avventer de første tre tonene. Smil til deg selv og den som ringer og bli ved pusten din. Først deretter griper du telefonen. Du vil merke, at denne bevisste stoppen, tydelig kan virke avslappende på telefonsamtalenes atmosfære.</li>
